Dar's restaurant scene is concentrated on Msasani Peninsula — an affluent coastal suburb with a dense strip of restaurants, beach bars and cafes along Coco Beach and the surrounding streets. The cuisine reflects the city's Indian Ocean position: excellent Swahili food (pilau, grilled seafood, coconut-based curries), strong Indian options and good international fare. The waterfront at Msasani provides one of the best dining atmospheres in East Africa — open air, warm evenings and the Indian Ocean right there.
Dar has several accessible beaches — Coco Beach in Msasani is the most popular and busy, while Kigamboni across the ferry provides quieter, longer beaches. The real beach action, however, is Zanzibar — 90 minutes away by high-speed ferry. Nungwi and Kendwa in northern Zanzibar have some of the Indian Ocean's finest beaches and are well worth two or three nights before or after the tournament.
Dar's luxury hotels on Msasani Peninsula have good spa facilities. The Hyatt Regency and Sea Cliff Hotel both offer complete spa experiences. For something more local, a number of wellness studios have opened in the Masaki area that offer competitive pricing and good treatments. The beach setting makes spa recovery genuinely restorative here.
The Zanzibar day trip from Dar is one of the most popular experiences in East Africa and AFCON 2027 presents the perfect excuse to do it. The Azam Marine ferry runs multiple daily services and takes 90 minutes. Stone Town — Zanzibar's UNESCO World Heritage old city — is extraordinary: a maze of narrow streets, carved wooden doors, Arabic architecture and some of the best seafood in East Africa. Spice tours, beach days and Swahili cultural experiences can all fill a comfortable day trip, or extend to a two-night stay.
Dar's main AFCON venue is in Chang'ombe, south of the city centre. Transport from Msasani Peninsula takes 30-40 minutes outside match day traffic — allow significantly more during tournaments.
Dar is the most relaxed of the three host cities. The Indian Ocean energy, Swahili culture and coastal pace make it the ideal AFCON base for fans who want football without the intensity of a capital city.
Uber and Bolt are both operating in Dar. The BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) runs along major corridors but is not practical for most AFCON venues. Taxis are straightforward and affordable.
The AFCON 2027 Card by Rahacards works across Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania — restaurants, spas, hotels and experiences.
